Landlord/Tenant Cash Lease Workshop
A workshop hosted by UNL Extension will be held at the Elba Community Center in cooperation with the Central IV Area County Extension Offices. This workshop is designed to help landlords and tenants establish and maintain a positive farm leasing relationship. It is being sponsored by the Nebraska Soybean Board and the North Central Risk Management Education Center.
The workshop will be held on December 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. "Some of our most frequently asked questions involve cash leases and land rents. The Landlord/Tenant Cash Lease workshops will provide a more detailed discussion of the many factors involved in determining rental rates and agreements," said Heather DePra, UNL Extension educator in the Central IV area.
Workshop discussion topics will include: expectations from the lease (including goal setting for the rental property); lease communication; determining appropriate information sharing for both the tenant and landlord; tips for farm leases that involve relatives; irrigation system options, as they pertain to setting lease rates; alternative cash lease arrangements; and flexible provision considerations for individual situations. Other topics such as grain bin rental, will be covered as time allows.
A team of UNL Extension Educators will be on hand to discuss these topics and provide common sense tips during the presentation. Managing the 2012 drought implications for 2013 will also be discussed.
It is very helpful if both the tenant and landlord attend together. "Putting together the right lease isn't about what is being discussed at the coffee shop, or what a university survey of cash lease rates says; it is about what fits both the landlord and tenant for their circumstances and situation. Attending this presentation will provide a set of ideas to work from as those specifics are discussed," commented Al Vyhnalek, UNL Extension educator and workshop presenter.
Workshops are free, but registration is required to reserve a spot. Please register by December 7th. Handout materials, a meal, and refreshments provided. Participation is limited. To register, call the UNL Extension Office in Loup City (308-745-1518), Ord (308-728-5071) or St. Paul (308-754-5422).
