Blank Slate Theater Grand Opening
The newest addition to the Ord business community is set to celebrate its completion on July 27 and 28. “This is an opportunity for us to pull out the stops and show off a premier venue in Central Nebraska” said Brian Magiera, owner of the Blank Slate Theater in downtown Ord. Formerly Valley Cinema, Magiera worked for two years to completely overhaul both the business model and the venue for a new use.
The theater has been remodeled and repurposed for live entertainment, music, movies and more. “We had to change the business model because the movie industry is going through some major change. We wanted to be out in front of that change” said Magiera. That change includes featuring a farm-to-table menu created by Executive Chef Jerry Hicks. A native of North Carolina, Chef Hicks has been working with Nebraska farmers and ranchers to source as much Nebraska-grown product the menu. Along with using Nebraska grown goods, Chef Hicks also bakes in-house pastries every day. “Our goal is to be a known venue in the national farm-to-table food movement” said Hicks.
For both nights of the Grand Opening, Chef Hicks will be featuring an exclusive menu that includes: Oven Roasted Pork Loin, Ginger Apple Compote, Brandy Demi Glace, Roasted Potatoes and Vegetable; 8oz Prime Rib, Baked Potato and Vegetable; or Chicken Picatta (pan seared chicken finished with a white wine caper butter sauce) Mashed Potatoes and Vegetable.
Tickets are on sale and the cost includes dinner and entertainment. Tickets may be purchased at Blank Slate or by calling 308-728-3751.
Statewide dignitaries have been invited to this summer’s big event and Brian has something special planned for guests. “We want to keep it a surprise, but also want to be sure that we thank those in the community that supported us through project completion. This has truly been a labor of love.”
